Safety Information
Safety is a priority for all of our events, including the annual Cincinnati Pride Parade & Festival. Every year, we make every effort to ensure the safety of our guests at the Cincinnati Pride Parade and Festival. Behind the scenes, we continue to work hard to ensure that we have the proper personnel and safety measures required to bring you a safe event by working with local, county and federal law enforcement and security companies.
If you have safety questions or concerns, please email [email protected].
What about concerns for this year?
In this time of heightened safety concerns for the LGBTQ+ community, members of our team have talked regularly with local, county, and federal agencies, including the Cincinnati Police Department and the FBI. These conversations have been proactive in nature and are not in response to any specific concerns about our event. In addition, members of our team have attended training offered by the FBI and Department of Homeland Security.
Spreading misinformation that Cincinnati Pride is not concerned with safety is inaccurate and harmful to our community.
What about protesters?
All organizations participating in the parade and at the festival have signed a pledge to uphold our mission but there may be bystanders who engage in protesting. Cincinnati Pride has a non-engagement policy. We ask all attendees to not engage with any protesters and allow key volunteers and police to handle any situations. The protesters want attention, please do not give it to them.
Why do you work with the city and the police?
While security is our priority, we as an organization recognize the tenacious relationship that exists historically between the police and LGBTQIA+ community.
Our annual Cincinnati Pride Parade & Festival is one of the largest events in the city of Cincinnati. Like every large event in the city, our event requires a special event permit for both the parade and festival. We are required by the city to use law enforcement and work with other city agencies, such as Traffic & Engineering.
Cincinnati Pride has historically had a good relationship with Cincinnati Police, Fire and the many other regional and federal agencies at work to keep us safe for our events. We are committed to continue to build that relationship to ensure protection and safety for our community year round, and address concerns as they arise.
The bottom line - on a normal year, our event attendance is 100K-200K. We simply cannot provide safety measures on that scale without working with local authorities.
